Russell Dickerson dropped the video for his crossover single “Boots,” featuring rapper Fetty Wap, giving fans a behind-the-scenes look at the collaboration that has become one of the year’s most talked-about genre-blending releases.
Released earlier this year, “Boots” combines country storytelling with hip-hop and R&B influences, continuing Dickerson’s recent push beyond traditional country boundaries. The song was written by Dickerson, Fetty Wap, Matt Dragstrem and Dylan Marlowe after fan excitement surrounding the unlikely pairing surged online. Interest in the collaboration accelerated following a viral social media clip involving Dickerson’s wife, Kailey, which generated tens of millions of views and helped fuel anticipation before the track’s release.
Directed by Daniella Mason, the video follows the pair through a day in Nashville before culminating in their appearance together during CMA Fest at Nissan Stadium, where Dickerson introduced Fetty Wap to a crowd of more than 50,000 fans where they performed “Boots” before also teaming up for Fetty Wap’s breakthrough hit, “Trap Queen.”
Dickerson previously said, “I’ve been a Fetty Wap fan since the beginning and his music has influenced mine probably more than I even know. So to have a song coming out with one of my biggest modern musical influences is one of the best feelings and what I think music is all about, creating something special with artists you love.” Fetty Wap echoed that enthusiasm, saying, “Working with Russell on this record was easy. Nothing felt forced. It was just good energy and a real natural vibe. I always been the type of artist that can tap into different sounds, and Russell got that same type of range, so it came together organic. It’s one of them records you can just ride to, feel good to, and play all summer.”
