Kenny Chesney is stepping back into the spotlight with fresh music, ending a break of more than two years. His new single, “Carry On,” offers the first glimpse of an upcoming studio album he’s currently finishing.
Reflecting on the recording process, Chesney shared, “It felt great in the studio,” noting how naturally the song came together alongside producer Buddy Cannon. “Sometimes when you’re running down a song, it all just falls into place because it just feels good.”
Chesney describes the track Carry On as a lively blend of styles, adding, “‘Carry On’ was fun, because of all the different genres we drew from. Plus, I love a chorus that throws life wide open – and reminds you how to find the light no matter what’s happening.” With its easygoing energy, the track echoes the feel of some of his past fan favorites, while also setting the tone for what’s next as he wraps work on the full album.
Speaking about the official lyric video for “Carry On,” directed by the Shaun Silva, Chesney shares that “Key West isn’t about who you are, but what’s in your soul. It’s the great equalizer, with wisdom to be found just about anywhere if you listen. I knew I wanted this video to show people that heart – beyond what tourists see – and give them a sense of what this song’s really reaching into in terms of how to live. It’s a different kind of freedom. People here aren’t running after anything, but letting go of all that – and hanging onto what makes them happy. That’s the deal, really. It’s what I wanted this video to represent, and what I think reflects how this song hits me”
