Ashley Cooke has released the official music video for her current single “baby blues,” with comedian and actor Matt Rife starring opposite her in the flirty clip. Directed by Josh Erb, the video premiered Sept. 23 and arrives as Cooke continues her Baby Blues World Tour in support of her self-titled sophomore album.
Set around a pool on a sunny afternoon, the video follows Cooke as she spends time with friends before catching the attention of Rife, who plays a waiter. The two exchange glances throughout the gathering before their attraction leads Cooke to follow him inside after the party winds down. Their private moment culminates in a kiss, only to be interrupted when Cooke’s friends discover them together.
Rife’s appearance continues a connection that began at CMA Fest in June, when Cooke brought him onstage during Billboard Country Live at Category 10 and serenaded him with “baby blues.” Cooke has since made a signature moment of the song’s live performances by selecting a blue-eyed audience member to receive the final verse. In an interview with Us Weekly, Cooke said Rife was “the first person I thought of when we thought about this music video,” adding that she had become “really close” with him and that “the kissing scene wasn’t too bad either.”
